BUCKLER AQUATICS we teach the Canadian Red Cross program through to level 10, with stress placed on stroke style, endurance and distance swimming.

BUCKLER AQUATICS SWIMMING PROGRAM

Buckler Aquatics is renowned throughout the GTA for teaching both children and adults to swim properly on a one-on-one basis in a group environment. We have been in business for over 46 years and teach in our own 91° heated pools. We teach using their proven Buckler method for babies from 6 months in age (Buckler Tad) through the Red Cross program to level 10 and then Life Saving Society Swim Patrol, Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross levels. Our small instructional groups are limited to 4 swimmers per group daytime, 5 swimmers per group, nighttime and on the weekends.

While they teach at all ability levels, Buckler Aquatics is a pioneer in the field of teaching swimming to infants and toddlers. Working closely with medical personnel, the ‘Buckler Tad’ program was first developed in the early 1970s and has been continually modified to recognize our current swimmers’ abilities. This pre-Red Cross program gives infants, toddlers and non swimmers the confidence they need to continue through the program.

Through a series of weekly 1/2 hour lessons our unique Buckler Aquatics lesson program is offered to infants (starting at 6 months), children and adults,. Swimmers are taught based on their swimming ability and not by age. This allows the swimmers to progress through the various Red Cross and Lifesaving Society levels at a rate that is comfortable to them. Instructors can then easily monitor and encourage each swimmers progress

Children progress at their own rate, encouraged by their instructors, in the preset program of one-on-one teaching. This program style accommodates the fact that all individuals progress at different rates while building on their strengths and improving on their weaknesses.

Today, more than 2,300 clients go through their Mississauga, North York, and Scarborough locations weekly and over 90,000 lessons are taught in the course of a year. Over 90% of our current aquatics staff were Buckler swimmers themselves. Many of our students today are children and grandchildren of parents that were Buckler ‘Tads’.

Our Swimming Lessons Program goal is to provide a learning environment whereby your children become comfortable in and around water, learn to respect that environment and grow to be competent swimmers. Swimming is a lifetime activity with many healthy benefits. We believe that every child should learn this skill at an early age and not miss out on these activities whether they are in a back-yard pool, or a cottage/camping water environment

Swimming is one of the few physical activities that can be started in infancy and gives the child the added advantage of building muscle tone, coordination, discipline, comprehension, and confidence in and around water. Swimming is a life skill that can be enjoyed by the whole family, while keeping you healthy and fit at the same time.

SPECIAL NEEDS PROGRAM

Buckler Aquatics is renowned in the GTA for teaching children and adults with various physical and learning disabilities, to swim. We provide a free aquatic evaluation and require parent or guardian consultation prior to enrolment so the aquatic staff is fully aware of the disability of the swimmer and to determine the correct level for the child (or adult) to be taught. Our trained instructors teach by ability, in our own 90° heated pools, conveniently located in North York, Scarborough and Mississauga. The special needs program has both daytime and evening classes and is dependent on availability, by pool.

Our instructors work with the swimmer on an individual basis with the goal being to be confident in placing them in a regular group class. Obviously this is not always possible, especially with the adult swimmers. Adult special needs clients are usually enrolled in private rather than group classes.

Buckler Aquatics is only too aware of the financial expenses in dealing with special needs children and have provided for a fee discount for these lessons.

Swimming is one of the few physical activities that can be started in infancy and gives the child the added advantage of building muscle tone, coordination, discipline, comprehension, and confidence in and around water. Over the years, we have found that a safe water environment can level the playing field with the majority of our special needs clients, providing them with a life skill that they can feel comfortable with.

Swimming is a life skill that should be enjoyed by the whole family, while keeping you healthy and fit at the same time. We have found, through experience, that special needs swimmers respond extremely well to the water environment as they can usually perform activities in the water at a higher level than perhaps that they could on land.
